Upgrade to National Polytechnic Status – St. Joseph’s Technical Training Institute for the Deaf, Nyang’oma Championing Inclusive Excellence in TVET Amid National Reforms

St. Joseph’s Technical Training Institute for the Deaf, Nyangoma, is deeply honored to be prominently recognized by the National Assembly Committee on Education and the State Department for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) during the recent Parliamentary oversight visits to National Polytechnics across Kenya. This recognition, led by the Principal Secretary for the State Department for TVET, Dr. Esther Muoria, highlights our upgrade to a National Polytechnic—an achievement that marks a significant milestone in our journey towards providing high-quality, inclusive technical education.
As one of the four special needs institutions prioritized for infrastructural upgrades and inclusive development, Nyangoma TTI stands as a beacon of hope and opportunity for learners with disabilities. This upgrade reflects the Government’s commitment to ensuring that TVET institutions are accessible to all learners, equipped with modern assistive technologies and tailored support services that enable every student to thrive. We are proud to contribute to this national vision by fostering an environment where inclusivity and technical excellence go hand in hand.
The ongoing national reforms in the TVET sector come at a critical time when systemic challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, unresolved land ownership issues, and high assessment costs continue to affect many institutions and students. The Parliamentary Committee’s call for reforms—including subsidizing assessment fees, addressing governance delays, improving digital infrastructure, and rolling out the Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) curriculum—resonates strongly with our mission. We are fully aligned with these efforts and committed to implementing best practices that enhance our training quality and student welfare.
Our recognition is not only a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff and learners but also a challenge to continue raising the standards of technical education. We are actively working to strengthen industry linkages, upgrade training equipment, and provide clear career progression pathways for our graduates. Through these initiatives, St. Joseph’s Nyangoma TTI aims to empower our students to successfully compete in the modern job market and contribute meaningfully to Kenya’s economic development.
As the TVET sector evolves, we stand ready to play a leading role in shaping an inclusive, innovative, and sustainable future for technical education in Kenya. We thank the Government, the National Assembly, and all our partners for their continued support and look forward to advancing this transformative agenda for the benefit of all Kenyans.
